Mallakhamb goes on Global map

On the 16th and 17th of February 2019, a historic event unfolded as Mallakhamb, a traditional Indian sport that combines gymnastics and pole climbing, took a giant leap onto the global stage.

The 1st Mallakhamb World Championships witnessed the participation of athletes from 15 countries spanning three continents, including Spain, Germany, Czech Republic, Italy, USA, Iran, Norway, UK, France, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, Vietnam, Bahrain, and India. This marked a significant milestone in Mallakhamb’s journey towards recognition on the international sports scene, a step closer to its aspiration of becoming an Olympic sport. Among the standout achievements were the remarkable performances by Keiko Takemoto of Japan and Delia Ceruti of Italy, who emerged as the Pole Mallakhamb champions in the women’s category. The event garnered widespread attention and coverage through print media, electronic media, and social media platforms, with a massive AC hanger serving as the epicentre of the action.

Mallakhamb had truly gone global, proving that sports have the power to transcend borders and unite nations in the spirit of competition and camaraderie.
